Course Description

Supporting School Attendance: Behavioral Assessment, Collaborative Return, and Lasting Participation is a 1.0 CEU course focused on practical, behavior-analytic strategies for understanding and addressing school attendance challenges. Participants will learn how to identify variables that may contribute to absenteeism or school avoidance, gather meaningful assessment information, and use those findings to guide individualized support. What You'll Learn

By the end of this course, participants will be able to differentiate patterns of school attendance by examining attendance records, arrival latency, signs of distress, and information gathered across home and school settings. Participants will learn to develop functional hypotheses about variables that may be maintaining attendance difficulties without assigning a diagnosis, while also recognizing when medical, clinical, bullying, or safety concerns require additional referral or support. The course will also prepare participants to design coordinated, least-restrictive return-to-school plans that clearly define intervention steps, team roles, and decision-making criteria. Finally, participants will learn to anticipate and respond to setbacks by using attendance-specific baseline data to guide maintenance, adjustment, and re-entry planning.
