No degree or previous ABA experience is required to enroll.
This course is designed for aspiring RBTs, educators, paraprofessionals, caregivers, and anyone interested in beginning a career in Applied Behavior Analysis.
Please note: To apply for RBT certification, you must be at least 18 years old and have a high school-level education or equivalent.
Course Overview
Build the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to begin working toward RBT certification.
This training covers the BACB’s 2026 RBT curriculum and introduces the essential responsibilities of a behavior technician, including data collection, assessment support, skill acquisition, behavior-reduction procedures, documentation, ethics, and professional conduct.
The training must be completed over at least five days and no more than 180 days

This training program is designed to meet the 2026 training eligibility requirement for RBT certification.
This training is offered independent of the BAC8.
What You’ll Learn
By the end of this course, you’ll understand foundational ABA concepts, how to prepare for behavior technician sessions, and how to collect, graph, and report behavioral data. You’ll also learn how to assist with assessments and implement skill-acquisition procedures.
The course also covers behavior-reduction procedures, accurate documentation, and clear communication with supervisors. You’ll learn how to protect client dignity, rights, and confidentiality while following ethical standards and ongoing supervision requirements.
How to Get RBT Certified
This course fulfills the 40-hour training component of the RBT certification process. After completing the training, follow these additional steps to apply for certification through the BACB.
1.Meet the Eligibility Requirements
Confirm that you meet the BACB’s basic requirements.
Be at least 18 years old
Have a high school-level ecucation or equivalent
Pass a criminal background check
Pass an abuse registry check
2.Complete the 40-Hour Training
Finish a qualifying BACB-aligned training program.
Complete a BAC8 2026 aligned 40-hour training
Minimum 5 days and no more than 180 days
Receive your certificate of completion
3.Complete the Initial Competency Assessment
Demonstrate the required skills with a qualified assessor.
Demonstrate the required RBT skills with a qualified BCBA or BCaBA.
Complete it through an organization connected to you, the assessor, and the clients involved
Complete it within 90 days before applying
4.Submit Your RBT Application
Submit the required documents through your BACB account.
Upload your 40-hour training certificate
Submit your competency assessment documents
Complete the required application attestation
Pay the current BACB application fee
5.Pass the RBT Examination
Schedule and pass the exam through Pearson VUE.

Review the current RBT exam content
Pass the examination to become certified
Beginning in 2026, the examination is based on the RBT Test Content Outline, 3rd Edition.
6.Maintain Your RBT Certification
Meet ongoing supervision and recertification requirements.
Practice under qualified ongoing supervision
Follow the RBT Ethics Code and reporting rules
Earn 12 PDUs during each two-year cycle
